Willing Spring To Arrive

It seems like this winter has gone by in a blink and a blur, and at the same time that it's taken abso-freakin-lutely FOREVER.

We've been very busy as a family, and at the same time we were totally socked in by insane cold weather and heavy snow until just a couple weeks ago.  The picture at left was taken February 16 - before the heaviest snow.  We ended up with over a foot more snow before all was said and done, and some days with wind chill temps of -30F.

I started working at an inclusive non-profit preschool as a long term substitute special education teacher, with 4 year olds, in January.  My time as their teacher is almost up (next week, in fact), but I've been asked to stay on as a teaching assistant through their summer session. That's a huge blessing, since it gives me steady employment while I'm looking for a permanent teaching job.  Maybe, just MAYBE, there will be a teaching opening there for me in the fall.  They like me, I like them, it's a good match.  I'm hoping. . . .

Safety Guy has been enjoying working on his driving skills, and is looking forward to taking his driving test as  soon as possible (i.e. after he completes driver's ed.).  He's also joined the high school automotive club - a VERY good work-around by his CSE team when his schedule had to be changed to give him more resource time, and he lost the block of time he would have needed for the Intro to Auto Tech class.  The auto tech teacher agreed to let Safety Guy join the club and get experience that way in lieu of the formal class.  I'm AMAZED to have a high school be so proactive and work so hard to help my son be successful in pursuing his dreams as well as being a successful student.  (It should have been this way all along. . . .)  I'm very proud of him advocating for himself in school.

The Princess has been riding her new lesson horse, Henry, and preparing for 4H show season.  She also joined the Winter Percussion Ensemble, and has had a BLAST as a percussionist.  Their big final competition is this Sunday.  She's continued to thrive as a student, and has been learning how to bake all sorts of goodies at home.  I'm so proud of her, for so many reasons!
